The Loire Valley

2 ½ hours from Paris

wine cellarAbout 2 ½ hours from Paris, the Loire Valley is, of course, the valley of Chateaux. It is actually amazing - they are all over the place! Big and small, royal and local, vineyards or a “simple” country home... Chateaux and more chateaux...

The Loire Valley is also one of the main wine areas of France. Thus, one can mix visits to illustrious châteaux with wine tasting in smaller châteaux.

On spring and summer evenings, enjoy some of the outstanding Sound & Light shows recreating historical events.

Children will also have fun visiting the Castle of the “Sleeping Beauty” where Charles Perrault wrote his masterpiece, or an amazing troglodyte castle, built half underground. One of the largest Zoos in Europe is also to be found in this area.

Lots of outdoors activities are available, from cycling to boating or just enjoying a leisurely walk in Villandry’s amazing gardens and maze which has recently been opened, based on the pattern of the Renaissance.

The Puy Du Fou

The Puy du Fou park recreates episodes of French history through live shows ranging from the roman empire’s gladiators to Viking invasions, the use of  birds of prey in medieval times, knights defending their dungeon, and of course, the musketeers!

It is just 2 hours from the Loire Valley and a truly sensational experience for children from the age of 5 onwards.
