About France |
One hears a number of clichés about French people and their special way of life. Them spending time enjoying lengthy five-course lunches sipping wine; hours chatting at a café watching the world and pretty girls go by; having an obsession with good food and dinning etiquette. These are all true! (But the French also have dark secrets – they are the largest consumers in the world of a particular fast-food brand!... So don’t let them intimidate you with their attitude...) But yes! The French are kings of “good living”. They revel in taking the time to enjoy small marvels of everyday life. A crunchy baguette with crunchy salted butter, a cup of good coffee with dark chocolate, a macarron from Ladurée, the traditional deco of a famous brasserie, the fresh seasonal products on offer at the weekly market, a game of pétanque in Provence, browsing at the bouquinistes on the Seine banks, long evenings in June…
Another of the richest facets of being in France is its incredible heritage. Oh! The thrill of actually being able to stay in a XVII century property which is also a regular home! Visits of historical sites range from the ancient Lascaux Caves with their pre-historical paintings, to a plethora of medieval towns and villages and their fortifications and mysterious underground passages, roman churches, gothic cathedrals, grand royal palaces, an abbey on top of a rock in the middle of the sea, small harbours, lots and lots and lots of chateaux.
But you need to take your time... So, get in the mood, slow down, sit down, enjoy the view, the wine, the food...
